Two years ago, Russell Wilson was traded to Denver in hope of playing a dozen years in Denver and winning a Lombardi Trophy. General manager George Paton sent four premium draft picks and three players to Seattle for Wilson and signed the Super Bowl-winning quarterback to a $242 million extension six months later.

Acquiring Wilson turned out to be the biggest miscalculation in franchise history and probably just sent Denver back another few years. He won just 11 of his 30 starts and witnessed both the coaching and quarterback carousels continue to churn in Denver, which hasn’t been to the playoffs since winning Super Bowl 50 back in 2016.  Cutting Wilson will leave the team with $85 million in total dead cap charges, which is the largest figure in NFL history. Call it a disaster. Wilson will likely sign with another team in hopes to be the starter and at this point in his career he won’t be expensive.
